Defiance 2012 Fraction Skis w/Bindings

When it’s time to separate the numerators from the denominators, well then it’s time to break out the Fraction. The Fraction is an all-mountain ski for intermediate skiers who explore the entire resort, from the terrain park to the trees to the groomer run—it’s all easily divisible. Though these skis are probably a little too stiff to be ideal for an absolute beginner, they are ok to purchase as a learning ski it will take a long time to outgrow, just don't be fooled by the price and purchase this ski in a size too long (for beginners chin height is usually good.)

Adjustable Bindings Included: This Defiance Ski product comes with an adjustable Tyrolia Railflex Lite 9 Binding included in the price. A din range of 2-9 is appropriate for most all recreational skiers. However, this binding will only accommodate a sole length up to 325mm. This is about a men's size 10. If you have a boot bigger than that you MUST choose the SRL100 binding option.

As far as appearance, both Defiance ski models are a perfect match for the default binding included and we do not recommend the more expensive SRL100 unless it is required because of your boot size.

Defiance Skis: Defiance Skis is an American ski company founded solely to provide high quality, durable equipment at realistic prices. Its 2011 galdarnit! And this is the internet! Shoppers shouldn't have to resort to a decision between renting or buying used gear, and really shouldn't have to spend $800 equipping a beginning skier! Stay beholden to the big box ski 'sales' if you must, or Defy the Ordinary, the decision is yours and yours alone.

The blue is a dark Navy blue, which looks black from a few feet away but is clearly Navy up close. The black is just plain black.

Skier Ability: Lower Intermediate to Upper Intermediate: Skiing all sorts of blue runs, starting to get off trail and into advanced (black diamond) territory, but at controlled speeds.

Wood Core: The standard core which has throughout time provided the best performance and durability. Each model may have it's own density level to help define flex and maximum speed but every wood core ski will be solid.

Cap ConstructionCap Construction: The topsheet of this ski drapes over the edge to form a clean and rounded finish to the side of the ski. This style of construction adds some torsional rigidity, and helps reduce topsheet chipping when the skis hit each other.

Early Rise: Somewhere between rocker and traditional sits the Early Rise. This helps the tip of the ski get up in softer snow, and still maintains good edge grip and firm snow performance.

Glossy Topsheet: The finish of this ski is glossy to help keep snow from sticking to it and to look pretty fancy.

So, we are getting asked regularly how can a solid intermediate ski be sold at such a low price. Defiance Sports said we can't tell you the full story but we can give you the summary.
The Fraction (without the name and graphics) was previously sold by a different ski manufacturer for $595-695 retail. Since Defiance took over a ski rather than built one from the ground up (as they did with the Pure Turn) the costs were substantially lower. They also have a fairly low marketing, advertising and sales budget ($0) and year one for them is about ironing out all the wrinkles not making a profit. Sadly, we are expecting higher costs next year (though still insanely low.) In any case everyone at L9 has or will test these out regularly so hit that chat link and ask someone who has actually skied them. These are solid skis...as far as price goes.. cmon if you know anything about L9 you know that our motto always has been "You get what you pay for, unless you buy from Levelninesports.com in which case you get 2-3x what you pay for."

Oh.. and as good as this deal is (and it's really freaking stupidly good) L9 regulars know this is not even close to the best deal Levelninesports.com has ever seen... for goodness sakes you can click that button in the top right and get an $899 150 flex world cup level race boot for $79. We are not saying you should, you probably aren't good enough and would end up in the hospital, we're just saying.)

And yes you do get two and yes the skis and bindings are brand new.
