Dynastar 2012 Legend Pro Rider 115 Powder Skis

The Dynastar Legend series is a common sight on the Snowbird tram, at big mountain comps, or anywhere that just had a multiple foot snow dump. The Pro Rider 115s are the biggest and baddest of the family, and boy are they tough. These skis have a wood core sandwiched in by two layers of titanium, so they are pretty damn stiff, especially in the tail and binding area. The Legend 115s have Dynastar's All Snow Rocker, which is a progressively rockered tip with a traditional camber throughout the rest of the ski. The rocker is enough to keep you floating in deep snow, but since the tail and meat of the ski are traditional camber, you can rip super fast with complete confidence in your edges. One other thing to note is the sidecut of these skis, or more specifically, the lack of a sidecut. These skis have very little shape and were made for off-piste skiing about 95% of the time, the other 5% of the time is going to suck.

These are the exact skis of Freeride World Champion Aurelien Ducroz...not that that means anything to you, but if they are good enough for the World Champ, they should be good to go for most anyone else.

Skier Ability: Top Experts: The best skier on the mountain, or somewhere close to it.

Ideal Target Skier: Big Mountain Charger: Top speed, all the time, regardless of terrain, obstacles or children in the way, these skiers need stability on par with professional downhill racers. They are usually looking for long skis that are wide and heavy.

Sandwich ConstructionSandwich Construction (SW): SW means that the sides of the skis are a vertical wall rather the rounded Cap construction found on most skis. Since none of the skis material needs to be exerting force maintaining shape at the edges, SW skis are stiffer than their Cap counterparts. Most people find SW skis to be damper, that is more glued to the snow, superior at high speed GS turns and top notch at busting through crud or choppy snow.

Double Titanal Layering: This ski features two layers of Titanal metal alloy, one just above the base, one just below the topsheet. This gives the ski extra stiffness and strength while creating a dampening, or shock absorbing, effect to the ski. This is usually found in the highest grade of racing and competition level freeride skis.

Wood Core: The standard core which has throughout time provided the best performance and durability. Each model may have it's own density level to help define flex and maximum speed but every wood core ski will be solid.

3-D core: Excess material is removed from the tip and tail of the ski to reduce weight, and more material is left over the edges to give more edging power to the ski.

Tip Rocker: This refers to the early rising of the tip to get the ski on top of the soft snow, rather than pushing through it. When the skis are held with the bases together, it will look like the tips are bent, and spread away from eachother. Tip rocker also helps skiers pivot the skis, making tight trees remarkably easy, and gives the ski a surf-like feel.

Extra Durable ABS Sidewalls: This sidewall material transfers energy to the edge extremely well, which results with better edge grip and control. It also helps the ski have a lively feel.
