Ideal Target Skier: Big Mountain Charger: Top speed, all the time, regardless of terrain, obstacles or children in the way, these skiers need stability on par with professional downhill racers. They are usually looking for long skis that are wide and heavy. Skier Ability: Expert: Skiing comfortably anywhere on the mountain, and at any speed, jumping off cliffs and overall craziness. Speed: Very Fast: Skiing at this speed means keeping up with the best skiers on the mountain, while still maintaining control. Color: White with a blue sky (or surf, we can't really tell.) Inspires you to do things you probably shouldn't Heavy-Duty Construction: Head's moniker for skis it has given some extra love to because you probably won't. Whether it's because you are hucking cliffs, spinning park 360s or cracking the occasional tree stump on early season powder days, these skis can take as much abuse as a ski can. Based upon the model it may be reinforced sidewalls, thicker cap wrap or denser material at end of binding mounting areas to absorb landing impact. Of course no technology will save your sticks if you are landing on a rock of a 20' cliff. Come to think of it, if you are even reading about this feature, go pick out a helmet. Sandwich Construction (SW): SW means that the sides of the skis are a vertical wall rather the rounded Cap construction found on most skis. Since none of the skis material needs to be exerting force maintaining shape at the edges, SW skis are stiffer than their Cap counterparts. Most people find SW skis to be damper, that is more glued to the snow, superior at high speed GS turns and top notch at busting through crud or choppy snow.
Metal Jacket: High speeds require high stability. There is no topsheet more resistant to vibration than metal topsheets. If stability at top speeds is your main concern then this feature is a must.
Wood Core: The standard core which has throughout time provided the best performance and durability. Each model may have it's own density level to help define flex and maximum speed but every wood core ski will be solid.
UHM C Base: The most durable, quickest base material on the market. It requires very little maintenance and allows your skis to do what they are made to do until you decide you've hit so many rocks that it needs a tune. |
