Rossignol's BC 65 Positrack is a lightweight but full metal edge touring ski, super versatile for both in-track or backcountry touring. The BC 65s feature a waxless Positrack base, which offers maximum grip while still allowing you to glide, negating the hassle and cost of climbing skins. The Positrack base is essentially a waxless, permanent skin that never needs to be fiddled with...which is pretty convenient! These skis are constructed with a Wood Air core, which provides the sturdiness and durability of wood while still being lightweight. On top of all this goodness throw on an extra-durable topsheet and you've got a great all-around XC ski to provide fun and exercise in the outdoors for years to come :)

The included binding in this XC ski package is a screw mounted backcountry binding with a simple step-in and step-out system. The BC Auto binding has a wide 56mm steering plate, giving you more control through variable snow conditions.

Mechanism: Automatic Entry, Push-button to release with pole (some XC bindings require you to bend over and fasten them, these are easier)

Boot Compatibility:NNN BC Sole (<--this is important)

Consider the Positrack base like permanent skins that you never need to worry about, they will keep your skis from sliding downhill while allowing you to glide uphill. All without having to attach and detach skins all day (and also without having to, you know, BUY skins)

Cap style construction with a full metal edge gives this touring ski more durability and toughness through variable terrain. The steel edge is what pushes these skis from in-track only XC Ski to a more versatile set that can be used in backcountry settings, too.

These skis have a wood core, but not a solid wood core. Aerating the wood core makes it lighter while still retaining much of the flex and durability of a solid wood core. This is a 'best of both worlds' type of thing!

Cross Country Skis: XC (also called Nordic) Skis are a new item at Levelninesports.com, and they have compatibility and size issues that Downhill (aka Alpine) do not have. For example, adult boots and bindings are not universally compatible like downhill ski setups. XC Ski poles are longer and generally thinner and lighterweight than downhill poles, with the sizing rule of thumb being 'up to your armpits'. Additionally there are multiple kinds of XC skis, with some types specializing in track skiing, some specializing in off-track skiing, and some that are in the middle.

Cross Country skiing is an Aerobic sport, and your outerwear should be as light and breathable as possible. Of course it is still a winter activity, so you'll need warmth, but you won't need a ski parka. What you will need are warm moisture wicking baselayers, to keep you warm without weighing you down or getting to sweaty.

We here at Level9 are at your disposal for any compatibility or sizing questions, as well as any general knowledge that a beginner XC skier would need to know to get out there and enjoy nature, and get some good exercise. Its fun, its outdoors, its excellent exercise, so why aren't you XC skiing already?
