Salomon 2012 BBR 8.9 Skis (The Future)

Sale: $699.00

A wider, beefed up version of the Salomon BBR 7.9 rears its head in the form of the 89mm underfoot BBR 8.9. The 8.9s also have sandwich (full sidewall) construction style, which makes them stiffer and more damp to vibrations than their little brothers. Like the other BBRs, these skis have exceptional carving ability because their waist is not that fat (really 89mm is a carving ski these days), but the surfy style super-wide shovel helps the skier tool around in soft snow and crud as well. These skis represent progression and innovation in the same way that Salomon's X-Scream (the most iconic system/parabolic ski of the 90s) and Pocket Rocket (the first ever mid-fat twin tips) skis ushered in new ways to make skis not only higher performance, but also more user friendly and versatile. The BBRs were made by the same fella, so who knows, the V-Shape sidecut of the BBRs might just be the next biggest thing in all-mountain versatility. Mr. BBR (Bertrand Krafft) does have a good track record, after all.

Discounted Ski Bindings: Lowest price and now discounteds bindings for these skis. Click the dropdown above but we have some awesome older binding models for 2012 skis only for a limited time. We aren't kidding.. check the first few binding options and don't dawdle supplies are limited.

Free L9 Poles: A little love from L9 to you in the form of a free composite Levelninesports.com ski pole. A comparable pole retails for $60 and we sell these for $24 normally. This free pole is for a few select skis as a little sweetener on the already lowest price.

Ideal Target Skier: Weekend Warrior/Charger: These skiers were once upon a time ski bums, or very proficient skiers in college, then landed an internship that led to a 70 hour work week and a spouse and 2.5 kids. They are still great skiers, and ski hard every chance they get on steeps, moguls, powder... whatever they can get their hands on.

Salomon BBR Skis: These skis are not like other skis, the shape is unique and not found anywhere else (yet). These skis are extremely versatile, as their waist widths are not incredibly wide they are nimble in the trees and can carve on hardpack. But the flip side is the big surfy tip, which will absolutely help non-powder skiers learn to love powder. You could take these to the mountain everyday of the winter, no problem.

Sandwich ConstructionSandwich Construction (SW): SW means that the sides of the skis are a vertical wall rather the rounded Cap construction found on most skis. Since none of the skis material needs to be exerting force maintaining shape at the edges, SW skis are stiffer than their Cap counterparts. Most people find SW skis to be damper, that is more glued to the snow, superior at high speed GS turns and top notch at busting through crud or choppy snow.

Wood Core: The standard core which has throughout time provided the best performance and durability. Each model may have it's own density level to help define flex and maximum speed but every wood core ski will be solid.

V-Shape Sidecut: A very wide tip shape, coupled with a narrow waist and narrow tail, this is the next generation of 'shaped' skis. They are as good on groomers as the current generation of carving skis, but way better in powder.

Salomon Pulse Pad: A layer of rubber along the edges and in certain zones of the ski for a smoother ride and and improved snow contact.

Turned up tail: These skis have a turned up tail, great for exploring more than the groomed runs. While not a full blown twin tip, these skis will perform better the same way twins will perform better (ie jumps, trees, etc) and have less race like precision than a non turned up tail. These will ski similarly enough to a traditional ski than any skier will feel comfortable yet allow a little more versatility.
