Carving Skis

Made for groomed trails. Today's carving skis are more versatile than any ski from a decade ago and are the choice for the skier who stays mainly on the marked trails.

DEFINITION
Carving skis are meant for skiing on groomed trails or hard pack. They usually have a lot of shape which means they are wider in the tip and tail and are skinnier in the middle.

Anyone can ski on carving skis. These skis are usually available for beginner to expert skiers.

Carving skis are the ideal ski for those that like skiing mostly groomers or hard pack. They do not perform well in powder and usually have too much shape for mogul skiing. A carving ski could ski well in the terrain park if they have twin tips but this is usually not the case.

WHICH CARVING SKI IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

For beginner skiers the ideal carving ski would be one that is no higher than chin level, has a little more flex and has a LOT of shape. You want the ski to be shorter because it is more easy to control that way. It should have more flex because again, it is more forgiving and easy to control. You want it to have a lot of shape because it will make turning much more easy.

For intermediate skiers the ideal ski is similar to a beginner in that the ski shouldn't be much higher than chin level. The ski can be a little more stiff and have a fair amount of side cut but a lot of side cut is not necessary.

For advanced or expert skiers, the ski can be higher than chin level if desired, but keep in mind that even World-Cup skiers are sizing to down to smaller sizes, so you don't need it to be very long. The flex of the ski should be more stiff and a lot of sidecut is not required but the ski should have a fair amount.

RAILFLEX BINDINGS AND OTHER INTEGRATED BINDINGS
The Railflex binding by Tyrolia is almost a must for carving skiers. This binding make carving much more easy and enjoyable.

GLIDING ON RAILS
Tyrolia's signature Railflex System can be fitted with any ski using Tyrolias Railflex Base. It maintains the characteristics of the ski and allows the ski to flex freely where traditional bindings don't.

MOUNTING WITHOUT DRILLING
Mounting a binding on a Railflex Base is as easy as it gets. Simly slide it on the rails, one screw and you are ready to go. The binding is mounted within seconds. If you are thinking of selling your skis in the future this is a prime selling point for you skis because the next person that skis them won't have to redrill the binding but move it easily without having to drill any more holes.
INSTANT BOOT LENGTH ADJUSTMENT
Just look at the sizing scale on the bottom of the Railflex band and snap the toe and heel into the right position. If necessary, the position of the heel can then be fine-tuned +/-4mm after mounting.

EXCELLENT CONTROL
With the Railflex Base perfectly aligned with the ski's binding area, power is distributed evenly throughout the entire length of the ski. A smoother ride and more power in controlling your ski are the natural consequences.

OPTIMAL POWER TRANSMISSION

DOUBLE FREEFLEX
The free-floating suspension of the Double Free Flex is based on two elements: For one, double sided oblong holes in the Railflex base enable the ski to flex underneath. Secondly, gliding toe and heel units provide even more freedom and make sure toe and heel pressure remain constant for more safety and performance.

PERFORMANCE RELATED BOOT CENTERING
Expert skiers prefer their bindings mounted slightly towards the tail of their skis. recreational skiers like to move them forward for easier turn initiation.

Tyrolia bindings can be re-centered at any time, allowing to find the right position for any skier in any terrain.

+15 MODERATE SPEED
Moves body weight to the front. the ski is easier to turn and control.

0 ALL-ROUND
Balanced position for all-mountain performance.

-15 EXPERTS
Shifting body weight towards the tail, the ski becomes more stable at high speeds and more powerful coming out of turns. Information coming soon: def of carving skis, how they have changed, skis with good sidecut, pros and cons, who wants them, who doesn't, besides Tyson,
