This all mountain carving ski will impress a wide variety of skiers. Sharp graphics and state of the art technology make the XRC 800 a durable and popular choice. The XRC 800 can carve on anything, but is still forgiving enough for the occasional mogul run. Powder and off trail isn't a strong point, but it will handle those well enough when asked nicely.

Head's Intelligence technology: is essentially an array of fibers inside of the ski that absorb the mechanical energy that your muscles are putting into the ski, and convert them to electrical energy. The more energy the fibers absorb, the stiffer the ski becomes. So the faster you go the more stable this ski is. We were the first one to say that this was just some gimmick jargon, but the stuff actually works.

Head XRC series skis are designed for all mountain enjoyment with a decided emphasis on carving groomed runs. They have the right shape to easily make perfect turns no matter what your skill level. XRC series skis run the gamut from low intermediate to expert. Though they are designed mainly for on trail fun, they have enough shape to enable skiing in the powder or crud. Make no mistake though these skis excel on groomers, hard pack, and ice. Because of this most all mountain Eastern skiers belong on XRC series skis. Western skiers who don't spend much of their time off groomed runs also are best off with XRC skis.

XRC series skis range from 300 to 1400. The bigger numbered skis are stiffer more feature laden and geared towards stronger skiers. The lower numbered skis are softer, easier to turn, perfect for intermediates and those who don't ski fast. There is some difference in features between model years, so be sure to check out the features on the ski you are looking at.

Our Ski Selector can take the guesswork out of choosing the correct ski. To perfect your carving experience, we recommend choosing any railflex binding listed below for the ultimate setup. Skiers who may want to spend a little more time off of groomed runs may want to check out our extensive selection of Monster series skis, which have a little more surface area for variable snow, but still sport a great all mountain sidecut. If you are strictly carving on groomers our 'C' series skis will better fit your style.

Liquidmetal: is another physics experiment by Head, and this one is more complicated. The idea behind all of this is that the solid molecules can be compressed when force is applied to them, whereas liquid molecules do not get compressed but instead simply reposition themselves. This means two things important to a ski: There is no loss of energy resulting in maximum energy rebound. Whatever you put into a turn, you get out of a turn on the other side. The second thing is that since these liquid molecules aren't being constantly compressed (remember they just reposition themselves), there is no breakdown over time, meaning the Liquidmetal will provide maximum rebound for the life of the ski.

These skis come with a 9mm carve plate preinstalled at the factory. This does two things: It gives you a little lift to make it easier to get the ski on edge and carve, and it limits the binding choices to one of the ones listed in the dropdown choice above.
The carve plate takes any Tyrolia (or made by Tyrolia such as Head, Fischer, Elan, etc) binding which is NOT a railflex.

These skis feature a Snakeskin Topsheet. This is a ribbed rugged surface that repels scratches and wear far greater than a typical topsheet. It won't make you ski better, but it will make you look better.

Tyrolia SR 100 bindings included at no charge: if you want a step up binding there are plenty of upgrades in the dropdown above.
Features:
Din range:3-10
Skier weight range: >67lbs
Weight (both bindings): 2440g
Boot Lift (toe/heel): 30mm
Boot Adjustment Range:
250-350mm even after being mounted.

The Sr 100 is a fine adjustable binding, but if you do not need the adjustability after the binding is mounted we strongly suggest you spend the measly upgrade fee and get the Freeflex 11. It is a vastly superior binding in every way and it looks wicked cool.

If you purchase a ski/binding but no boot from us to go with the skis, we can mount the bindings but you will need to have them adjusted by a local certified binding technician. If you also buy a boot from us on the same order, we will test and adjust the bindings to the boots. New skis come with a thin factory wax layer so you can be ready for skiing out of the box.

Fantastic skis! I ski very fast but still enjoy the moguls too. These skis make me push them harder and harder every time out! They give me the confidence that I can do anything.

Carving legend. End of story. The XRC 1000 and up are all borne from racing, really stiff and really fast for expert skiers. The XRC 800 is much more accessible for the average to above average skier who rips the groomed and icy terrain.

I am a 150 lbs, 44 yr old male ski racer (Gold/New England/Atomic) with two sets of race skis and want a general all purpose ski for when I am not racing. 1. Would these skis be a good choice? 2. How much do they weigh? (In case I decide to haul them up Tuckerman's this spring)
-Sean February 06, 2010 12:26PM

I think it's a great choice of all mtn ski for you! weight: 2440g (skis only)

I am an intermediate/advanced skier who likes to rip a good carve on groomed terrain so I am interested in this ski. I am a heavy skier (290 lbs) on a budget. Can I get away with the SL 100 bindings that come with this ski package? Thanks...
-Lee January 09, 2010 7:40PM

Officially, if you have a big shoe size you will probably not top out a din 10 binding even with your weight. However I think you should bite the bullet and move up to a mojo 12 so you dont have to worry about the future when you may be advanced/expert and will need more beef.

I am 5'10" tall 225# intermediate to adv. int...ski groomed, icy and sometimes powder conditions. will this ski work for me? also i see they have a carved plate. If I have my our bindings "Markers') can they be installed without any problem? if so how should I proceed with my order? thks
-tim January 09, 2010 12:56PM

You can not mount marker bindings on a tyrolia carve plate. The ski itself is perfect as long as that "powder" pecentage is low.

I'm about 6'2" 225lbs and looking for a NASTAR and all around ski for groomers and ice in Minnesota, I'm torn between these at 170 or 177 or the shorter Hello Swedens; but am open to any suggestions, I'm in the NASTAR bronze/silver category with my soft HEAD C220s but want to move towards silver/gold territory this season and so am looking to shave a couple seconds without getting a racing ski necessarily (morning racing - afternoon playful carving).
-Andrew January 08, 2010 8:48PM

Well.. If you want to get to gold you need a "racing ski necessarily". The 800s are a step up from the c220s but only one notch. I say turn it up all the way.. yes Im saying Hello Sweden if we still have them.

How different are the carve plate and railflex holes?
-Ray December 28, 2009 8:30AM

the carve plate has specific hole patterns for different tyrolia bindings where as the Railflex is quite a different system With a different method of applying to the ski.

can these skis have a railflex binding installed on them?
-Greg December 27, 2009 11:01AM

No, they come from the factory with the carve plate installed. We've tried to put a railflex plate on them in the past, and the holes cause problems.

Hi - I am looking at these for my husband. He is 6 ft, 163 lbs. and an advanced intermediate. We ski primarily in New England with our kids. Is this a good choice? Also I noticed the binding is not a railflex - can I ask why?
-Jill D December 07, 2009 12:10PM

The binding is not a railflex because it was mounted at the factory with a carve plate that does not allow for a Railflex plate to be mounted. If you absolutely need a Railflex ski, probably check out the Xenon 9.0. Beyond that, the XRC 800 would be a great match for his ability, terrain, and stats.

I am 6'2", 184 lbs, above average skier (like fast sharp turns) who is looking for a ski that will perform well in eastern conditions (groomed and icy). I was wondering if this ski would be appropriate. If so, which binding would you suggest?
-Martin November 23, 2009 7:48PM

This ski would definitely be appropriate for your ability, skiing style, and conditions. It gobbles up icy snow, so it is a great match for you. As for bindings, the standard SL 100 is pretty good, but if you want to upgrade, I suggest the Mojo 12.

I am 6'03", 260 lbs, expert skier who is looking for a ski that will perform well in eastern US conditions. I mostly ski hardpack groomed runs, and need a ski that can accomodate my size. I was wondering if this ski would be appropriate. If so, which binding would you suggest?
-Mark42 November 18, 2009 9:12AM

I think you should look at the Xenon 9.0 in a 177 cm length. It is a much wider ski with a lot more sidecut, perfect for tearing apart the groomers on the east. This wider platform will also help accommodate your size as well.

What year are these skis? Are these suitable for icy hardpack like we get in VA? Are these skis appropriate for a low intermediate skier?
-VAskier May 25, 2009 8:06AM

These are from the (06-07) season, they are perfect for VA conditions. They are not appropriate for low intermediates as they do not flex quite that easily. If you plan on skiing a lot and improving you could get this ski as one you would go into, but if now is more important, look at something like the xenon 3 or xrc 300.
