The Raptor 120 RS is, as the name states, part of the RS family, which means that it is ever so slightly wider than an RD boot, by a couple of millimeters (millimeters, hello Quebec). This is the type of boot where you will almost certainly have to make a couple of adjustments to dial it in to your settings--and if you are interested in this boot you probably already know what sort of alterations you will need to make. Lucky for you, almost any adjustment you'd care to make is do-able on this boot. They make this boot for experts and professional skiers, so you can be sure that the features and technologies were spared no expense. Please be advised this is not for newbies..

Description

Mondo Size: 27.5
Sole Length: 313mm

Target Skier: Experts and racers only

Features:
Color: Red, baby
Flex rating: 130-120-110 (adjustable)

High rebound PU Shell: Stiff plastic used for the shells of high performance and race boots. Helps drive the energy from the skier direct to the skis to maintain snow contact. The elasticity/rebound of the shell absorbs some of the energy from bumps, and drives the skis back down on the snow.

98mm last: Forefoot width of 98mm for racing performance, not as concerned about comfort, although Head boots do a great job of keeping their performance boots quite comfortable.

Performance PRO liner: A thin layer of thermo-moldable material gives this liner unmatched contact and feel with the shell of the boot, while quickly molding to the unique features of the skier's feet. The footbed that comes with this liner has pronounced heel and arch support, compared to most standard boots. This liner also has cork ankle inserts that slide into place on either side of the achilles tendon to prevent heel lift.

Micro-adjustable aluminum Racing Department buckles: These aluminum buckles can be moved to adjust for size, so if the default position of the buckle and the teeth is too wide or too narrow, you can move it until it fits. And they sport the red and white racing buckles just like the Head World Cup team.

Double Canting: Two adjustment bolts, one each side of the ankle, allow for maximum adjustment for leg/knee alignment problems. The canting helps the skis stay flat on the ground while you are still bow-legged or knock-kneed.

FIS Approved: This boot conforms to the boot sole thickness regulations set forth by FIS. This means that when you are good enough to compete and win, they won't tell you its just because of your boots.

Double Velcro Powerstrap: This a powerstrap on steroids. Using a simple pulley, the double power strap can tightened significantly more than a regular shin strap, which effectively acts as an extra buckle, keeping your upper shin and calf locked right where they're supposed to be.

RD/RS liner shell combo: Head's RD and RS boots are serious performance boots, but the fit is more comfortable than the forefoot width would indicate. The liner is compressed so that it will not be as bulky and pack out less than a lower end boot.

Additional Info

These boot fit approximately a Men's 9.5 or a Women's 10.5. For a tighter skiers fit consider sizing down 1/2-1 size.

Marketed to: Men (though juniors and women can use these too if the sizing is correct.)

I just got these boots in the mail. My buddy can't believe I only paid $200 for them -- he has the same boot from 07-08 and paid $800..bwahahaha. Retail is for suckers. Anyways, thanks to Levelnine for the sweet deal -- and $200 is really a deal for this particular boot. I am surprised these boots haven't sold out. The only thing I don't like about the boots is the color. I have never been a big fan of red but I really don't buy ski gear on looks and don't stare at my boots when I am skiing. I haven't skied them yet but based on fit and feel I can tell these boots are going to rip. They are a lot tighter accross the forefoot than my Head RS 120 and are going to need some punches along the second-toe area. I also will get a 1.5 degree cant-out on the right sole and a 5mm lifter on the left boot as I have a leg length discrepancy. The boot has all the adjustments expected for this level of boot -- cant adjustments +/- 2 Degrees and there is a stance adjuster in the back that allows you to adjust forward lean. The defaul flex is 110 and there are two screws that can be drilled into the rear to increase the flex to 130. The overall craftmanship is top notch, Buckles, screws, and the cant adjustment levers on the side are all top notch and not the plastic crap you find on some boots, even high-end ones. Regarding fit, I can tell from experience with boots that if you have a narrow heel and a C-D sized forefoot you will likely fit well in this boot. A E width might even work as there is a lot of material in the shell to grind and punch without blowing anything out. As long as your heel isn't too wide, you should be able to work it out. If you have big fat feet or a high instep, it might be too tight. Regardless of your foot size, some type of punch or grind will likely be neccesary for most. These are almost, but not quite, plug-like in the cast shape. Can't wait for

This is not quite Bode's boot, but lets just say that newbies should look elsewhere.

Ask a new question about this model (will popup in separate window.)

Is this a plug boot? The last plug boot I skied was COLD due to a very thin lining. How is this boot in cold weather? I bought neoprene boot covers for my old plug Salomons Rich sold me.
-Pete January 07, 2010 8:28PM

The raptor 120 is not a plug boot, but the lining is thinner than standard liners. You still might want to use your boot covers for this one.

Thanks. I have a decent boot guy. How does this compare to the Salomon Falcon "Race" (also not a plug boot, with a 120 flex)? Does Level Nine sell a warmer liner for this boot?
     -Pete January 09, 2010 2:39PM

From what I can find the Falcon Race is just Salomons version of the raptor 120 rs (or vice-versa) They should be very similar.
