Head's 'Quest for the perfect boot' (their words) yielded the S-line, specifically the S13. This boot comes with the plush and comfortable SuperHeat3 liner and adjustments to widen or narrow the instep width piled on top of their race department technology. The comfort options included make this boot a great choice for a wider range of skiers, but at its core this boot was borne of the race department, so you know what level of performance you're going to get. (Or if you don't know what level of performance you're going to get, here is the answer: very high)

Description

Mondo Size: 29.5
Sole Length: 337mm

Target Skier: Advanced to expert skiers that like to play with all the adjustment gizmos to perfect the performance fit.

Features:
Color: Translucent orange and silver
Flex rating: 110-120 (adjustable)

High rebound PU Shell: Stiff plastic used for the shells of high performance and race boots. Helps drive the energy from the skier direct to the skis to maintain snow contact. The elasticity/rebound of the shell absorbs some of the energy from bumps, and drives the skis back down on the snow.

SuperHeat 3 liner: High performance liner that molds to your foot, activated by body heat. The SuperHeat 3 has the adaptive lining in the ankle, heel, tongue, and insole and will speed up the break in process of your boots.

Micro-adjustable aluminum buckles: These aluminum buckles can be moved to adjust for size, so if the default position of the buckle and the teeth is too wide or too narrow, you can move it until it fits.

Double Power Buckles: Some of the buckles on this boot (usually the top 2) have a metal flip-out that can be extended to give the skier more leverage when clamping it down.

Racing Flex Adjustment: The flex setting of this boot can be adjusted very precisely to any stiffness within its range. High performance skiers can dial in the exact stiffness that they desire.

Single Canting: One adjustment bolt on the outside of the ankle helps compensate for bow-legs or knock-knees. This tilts the cuff of the boot left or right while keeping the base of the skis flat on the snow.

Double Velcro Powerstrap: This a powerstrap on steroids. Using a simple pulley, the double power strap can tightened significantly more than a regular shin strap, which effectively acts as an extra buckle, keeping your upper shin and calf locked right where they're supposed to be.

Adjustable rear spoiler: With the turn of an allen key, the height at the top rear of the boot can be adjusted. If you are taller than average for your boot size, or if you just want the extra support at the back of the leg, you can adjust the spoiler up about 1cm from standard. This will also pitch you forward slightly into a more aggressive stance.

S103mm Shell Last: The S series boots have a forefoot width of 103mm. This is a wider fit for such a high performance boot. The S series shell is a proven shape for better comfort in a high performance boot.

Additional Info

These boot fits approximately a Men's 11.5. For a tighter skiers fit consider sizing down 1/2-1 size.

Marketed to: Men (though juniors and women can use these too if the sizing is correct.)

Amazing boot, extremely high performance but it actually is comfortable to wear without making any alterations. There are boots better than this, but for my money there are no boots this excellent that are nearly as comfortable.

How does this boot compare to the head edge 11? I was considering that boot spring 08 and you sold out before I could order, the feature I liked about the 11 was the width, so is the 13 as wide as the 11?
-WALTER ORZEPOWSKI July 14, 2009 4:42PM

This boot is a different world than the Edge 11. It is much stiffer designed for very aggressive skiers demanding performance only. It adjust 100 or 103mm so is fairly roomy for a performance boot but not as roomy as the 104mm fit of the edge.
