The Hawx 80 is a great conservative looking boot, all black with some dark red, the Hawx 80 is going to be a great boot for intermediate to advanced skiers. The 100mm last will keep a snug fit around the foot which allows for precise edge control but the 80 Flex rating makes this boot a little more forgiving for moderate to fast speeds. The Hawx are a step up from more comfort oriented boots which don't offer nearly as much performance value as this boot!

This chart provides a safe comfortable size that most all skiers will be able to use. If you are looking for a true skier's performance fit you may want to size down one half to one full size smaller. For most ski boots, the full (.0) size uses the same shell and liner as the half (.5) size (like, 25.0 and 25.5) and will have almost an identical fit.

Details

100mm last: A performance width for advanced recreational skiers all the way up to expert level skiers. This is also suitable for skiers with narrower than average feet.

80 Flex Index: This boot has a flex rating of 80, which is moving out of the softer-entry level boots and into the stiffer more advanced ski boots. A boot of this flex is appropriate for a wide range of skiers, from lower intermediates looking to improve to expert skiers who want a more casual flex.

i-flex insert: A flexible plastic under the middle of the foot to allow the boot to flex as the ski flexes under pressure. This helps smooth out turns and returns energy back to the ski to help rebound into the next turn.

Single Micro Exicenter canting: Single canting on the outside of the ankle that will help correct an uneven ski platform. The adjuster stays right in the center, and pivots the boot without changing the fit or flex of the boot.

Tongue Pull: A loop of fabric at the top of the tongue helps in putting on and removing the boots. Pull it forward and to the side and your foot should slide right in.

35mm strap: Wider than average strap at the top of the boot to help keep the boot together and to give good performance while skiing.

Micro-adjustable aluminum buckles: These aluminum buckles can be moved to adjust for size, so if the default position of the buckle and the teeth is too wide or too narrow, you can move it until it fits.

Height adjustable spoiler: A quick adjustment via velcro raises the rear top of the boot to give more support on the back of the leg, or when lowered, gives a little more room and comfort for the skier.

Replaceable Toe and Heel Pads: This is a must-have for skiers that don't live in ski in/ski out condos. When your ski tech tells you that you have to buy new boots because the soles are worn down too much, just laugh at him and tell him to order you a new set of sole plates.

Atomic ASY Sport Liner: Atomic's ASY (Asymmetrical) Sport liner is a bit softer than the highest end Atomic liner, but this is essentially the second best one. These boots are ergonomically fitted, liner can be thermomolded to your foot, with specific adjustments in ankle and forefoot areas. Also its fuzzy and warm. You should be pretty damn comfy in these.

Atomic Hawx boots:The Hawx (pronounced 'hawks') series of boots are a little narrower than average, at 100mm, to give firm snow and all mountain skiers the support necessary to maintain control through ice and variable snow types. An insert under the middle of the foot actually lets the boot flex through a turn to help eliminate or reduce the dead/flat spot of the ski. The same feature gives spring back to the bindings to increase rebound to start the next turn. The Hawx series gives skiers that love to carve an advantage on firm snow as they maintain better edge hold through a turn.

Absolutely love these boots! I'm an upper intermediate skier and got these to go with my Salomon BBR 8.0's. - they happen to match well. Very easy to get on and off, easy adjustments, comfortable and warm. After 4 days of skiing so far, I think they are about broken in. (Posted on 2/7/2015)
