The Defiance Puzzle Package is brand new for this season and features the Defiance (our house brand) Puzzle Ski, SX 4.5 Bindings and Adjustable Roces Ski Boots. There are a variety of different color options for both boys and girls and each ski sports a simple 3D style pattern in the middle of the ski which (not to toot our own horn), looks awesome. This is a full woodcore ski, that's lightweight and great for pretty much all levels of mini-skier sticking mostly to groomed trails (and is also covered under a Lifetime Warranty). Included in this low price are Defiance 4.5 bindings (made by Head) that will compliment this ski very well and the always amazing and adjustable Roces IDEA boot. This is a lightweight, durable (fantastic looking) package with an insane value that we know the little ones in the family will love!

Ski poles are your friends. They help you maintain proper form and balance, as well as help you get across the flat spots. The only people that shouldn't use poles are kids that cannot parallel yet, true beginners, snowboarders, and park skiers that desperately need to look like snowboarders. So if you aren't one of these categories, you should be using poles.
Sizing poles is easy. Just use the ski pole Sizing chart to give you a good estimate of what length of poles you should be using.
Ideally, your arm should be parallel to the ground when you grasp the pole (with the tip up) below the basket.

There are cases when you can go longer or shorter than what the chart recommends:

  • If you are a bump skier, you should size down 2-8 inches.
  • If you want an aggressive stance for steeps and higher speed skiing, size down 2 inches.
  • If you are doing a lot of park skiing, size down 2-6 inches
  • If you Telemark, size down 2-6 inches
  • If you are powder skiing a lot, size up 2 inches.
  • If you are ski jousting, size up 4-12 inches

We have thousands of poles to choose from, and if we don't have your size, any of our poles are easy to cut to length.

Free Binding Mounting: We will mount you ski bindings for free whenever you order skis and bindings. If you order boots, too, we can adjust them so they are ready to hit the slopes right out of the box! Just be sure to fill out the mounting form that comes up after checkout.

Package Information: We provide complete binding adjustment to all packages purchased at no extra cost to you. If you don't know all the information required, Please fill out the form to the best of your ability.

Defiance Skis: Defiance Skis is an American ski company founded solely to provide high quality, durable equipment at realistic prices. It's 2016! And this is the internet! Shoppers shouldn't have to resort to a decision between renting or buying used gear, and really shouldn't have to spend $800 equipping a beginning skier! All Defiance products are covered under a Lifetime Warranty so not to worry, if anything happens that shouldn't, L9 has gotcha covered. Stay beholden to the big box ski 'sales' if you must, or Defy the Ordinary, the decision is yours and yours alone.

Ideal Target Skier: Developing Young Skier: Anywhere from first timers to advanced youth skiers, that still have a lot to learn about skiing. They might ski fast sometimes, and have a blast, but aren't comfortable with some areas of the mountain.

Should I Choose 4.5 or 7.5 Din Bindings?: There are two types of binding options: 4.5 DIN and 7.5 DIN.The 4.5 DIN is best for any junior skier under 80 lbs and the 7.5 DIN is best for junior skiers who weigh over 80 lbs. The numbers indicate the maximum DIN values for each of the bindings, the 7.5 is higher so its generally for older junior skiers and the 4.5 is perfect for the younger, shorter skiers. If you are still confused, it's okay we are always here to help you out!

Wood Core: The standard core which has throughout time provided the best performance and durability. Each model may have it's own density level to help define flex and maximum speed but every wood core ski will be solid.

Cap Construction: The topsheet of this ski drapes over the edge to form a clean and rounded finish to the side of the ski. This style of construction adds some torsional rigidity, and helps reduce topsheet chipping when the skis hit each other.

Fiber Tech Wrap: A fiberglass network that surrounds the core of the ski. This technology helps the ski flex evenly, creating a smooth, effortless turn.

Active Camber: In a world of early rise, rocker, and reverse camber, there still is a need for traditional full camber skis. The edge grip and stability is unmatched on groomed snow. This ski gets maximum edge to the snow, so it helps skiers skiing the firm stuff, or just prefer the 'feel' of traditional camber skis.

Extruded Base: This durable material requires little maintenance and holds wax for a long period of time, so you don't have to wax as often.

Our friend Rich has made an informative video series on teaching young children to ski. Labelled coincidentally enough it's useful to those of you with skiers you would like to introduce to the sport.

For The Kids: A select list of our favorite junior gear. Hand picked by our very own ski gurus. This product made the cut.

Product Questions

Product Questions

My daughter really likes the package in the far right picture - what exact color of Roces boots are these? They look white, but I can't find them in the list of selectable boots for the package. Also, she is small (just turned 10) - 130cm / 26kg but a very fast, controlled and capable skier - no problem with black runs. She is not skiing competitively yet but may soon. Do you think these will be good enough for her? She will be skiing 90% on piste groomed runs with very little powder (typical NZ North Island!). She is not interested in the terrain park (so twin tips not needed) I tried to interet her in the Fischer RC4s you have but she (unfortunately) is somewhat fashion conscious and the skiis aparently have to be pale blue or purple!! Do you have any other suggestions? Will need to be shipped to New Zealand.
How much is freight to Australia for this package? Can you attach the bindings for us before you send them? Hoe long does it take to receive them? We bought boots from you 2 years ago ' she has outgrown them now, but they were very good for her.
Thanks for answering my question from 12/30/2014. It sounds like these will be the skis for her. She is set on the powder blue boots though. When do you think these will be back in stock? Our season doesn't start for 5 months.
this package looks perfect for my 9 yr old... she is 33kgs which is 72 pounds. the head sx 4.5 bindings are good until 80 pounds or 36kgs. should i go for the over 80 pound sx 7.5 and try to get 3 yrs out of the set. the boots are adjustable to 3 sizes.
Any update on the availability of the powder blue Roces? My daughter is still dead set on them. We have a couple of months left until the season starts in New Zealand. Many thanks.

Great value, great performanceReview by Mike
My 9 year old loves the look and feel of this package. The skis respond wonderfully, the boots are stable and comfortable. The combination of comfort and style has her asking "when are we going skiing again?" after each trip to the mountain. (Posted on 1/15/2016)
Defiance Puzzle/Roces PackageReview by SkierGirl
Ordered the Defiance Puzzle/Roces Complete Girl's ski package due to other reviews being positive. As we have yet to ski this package, I can only respond to the ease of order and quick delivery for this product. The ski looks great, the fit was perfect, and the boots fit my daughter at the first adjustment level, so I expect at least two years from the fit. 130 cm skis were at the long side of recommended for my second year skier, so we'll have to see how that goes, but she is a strong skier already and I don't expect problems. I will post an updagte when we see how they ski and hold up to abuse. All we need now is snow on the east coast! Pray for snow!!!! (Posted on 12/29/2015)

Just Excellent!Review by Ediboy
We bought two sets of packages for our 7 & 8 yr olds and couldn't be happier. The quality of the products is great, and the kids have not complained once about boot comfort, and the skis have given them so much more confidence to shred compared to rental gear. Customer services is amongst the best I have ever experienced, and we will be buying all future ski gear from Level Nine, no questions asked. Finally I was amazed how quickly the packages turned up here in rural NZ from the USA. Amazing service, response time and customer experience. Will use again and recommend to others. Great ValueReview by Nicolas
Bought for 7-yr old daughter as a starter set of skis. She is so excited now that keeps asking me every week to go back to the slopes. At first I was hesitant given that I never heard of neither brand before (Defiance nor Roces). However, I am now reassured as I have already spotted at least 3 different kids carrying the same ski package (in different colors) throughout the season. The 19-22 Roces boots fit her great and she really liked the soft pink color. They can be very easily adjusted in 4 different sizes. She got to use the smallest size setting which means these boots should last her for at least 4 more years. The skis are of good quality, especially if you're looking for a new pair and don't want to throw your entire wallet. The only caveat is that I wish they had the tip protectors we find standard in many skis nowadays. The ordering and delivery process was very easy. I even chatted with LevelNine Sports to get help on selecting the right size of skis, and the customer service proved to be excellent. The most convenient aspect is that the ski package comes already with the bindings set and the skis waxed, ready to hit the slopes! Later I went back and ordered another ski package for my older daughter and a couple of their boot bags for $14 which proved to be one of the best buys ever. (Posted on 2/17/2015)
Fantastic value Review by Debby
Bought for our six year old daughter and couldn't be happier. These are great value and she is skiing very well on them. We fitted our whole family ready for our upcoming NZ this season and went to the indoor ski area to try our gear out. Really impressed and the service from the guys was fantastic with super quick replies. (Posted on 2/14/2015)
Great first experienceReview by Darcy
Perfect starter skis for my granddaughter. The value was outstanding. The packaging is perfect...everyone should have pink ski boots. I was a bit nervous ordering on line but Levelnine sports has a great warranty and backs up it's product. Made in the USA is important to me. I look forward to continuing the relationship I've established as my granddaughters ski ability matures. (Posted on 1/31/2015)
Great Value Great PackageReview by jb
I bought a set for each of my 5 and 7 year old girls. They've only been used twice but so far a great purchase at a great value. I should hopefully get 2 and maybe three seasons out of the adjustable boots. The skis seem to mar a bit too easily for beginner skis (lots of ski on ski action) but come with a great warranty. Customer service was helpful with sizing. (Posted on 1/28/2015)
