Ski poles are your friends. They help you maintain proper form and balance, as well as help you get across the flat spots. The only people that shouldn't use poles are kids that cannot parallel yet, true beginners, snowboarders, and park skiers that desperately need to look like snowboarders. So if you aren't one of these categories, you should be using poles.
Sizing poles is easy. Just use the ski pole Sizing chart to give you a good estimate of what length of poles you should be using.
Ideally, your arm should be parallel to the ground when you grasp the pole (with the tip up) below the basket.

There are cases when you can go longer or shorter than what the chart recommends:

  • If you are a bump skier, you should size down 2-8 inches.
  • If you want an aggressive stance for steeps and higher speed skiing, size down 2 inches.
  • If you are doing a lot of park skiing, size down 2-6 inches
  • If you Telemark, size down 2-6 inches
  • If you are powder skiing a lot, size up 2 inches.
  • If you are ski jousting, size up 4-12 inches

We have thousands of poles to choose from, and if we don't have your size, any of our poles are easy to cut to length.

Description

Details

Elan's efforts to provide easily accessible performance to skiers of intermediate (give or take) ability have been met with great success. The proof is in their Black Magic LS women's skis with ELW 9.0 bindings for 2017. Picking apart how they have done this you notice that the Black Magic LS is a lightweight ski that flexes willingly without too much pressure necessary for making each turn. Torsional bending, however, is not so easy thanks to Waveflex technology, so you get unwavering edge hold throughout each turn. A Superlight wood core is lightweight but responsive, so you don't get too worn out by the skis as the day progresses, so your turns are as easy on run ten as they were on the first of the day. Another feature we like that adds versatility to the ski is the Early Rise Rocker that makes the ski ultra-willing to initiate turns when leaned on edge. That Early Rise Rocker also makes the ski more nimble for maneuvering amid moguls and other features that present themselves when off-piste. These skis will make you look so good you might think there is some Black Magic at play. The Nordica NXT Pro W 75 boot is an optimal choice for beginner to intermediate level skiers who wish to progress their skills while remaining comfortable out on the slopes. For starters the NXT has a generous and very cozy 102mm last which is wider than other, more high-performance boots. The liner itself is also built using Primaloft insulation, which does a fantastic job keep your feet warm while wicking away moisture. This boot has a 75 flex which is at the softer end of the spectrum and is forgiving enough to allow for easy turning at the beginner to intermediate skill level. A feature that's especially valuable as well, is the Adjustable Cuff Profile which will help accommodate all sorts of the calf sizes easily in this boot. Ae you looking for a name brand soft-flexing boot for under $200? Look no further than the NXT Pro W 75 from Nordica!

  • Ski:
  • Free Binding Mounting: We will mount your ski bindings for free whenever you order skis and bindings. If you order boots, too, we can adjust them so they are ready to hit the slopes right out of the box! Just be sure to fill out the mounting form that comes up after checkout.

Early Rise: Somewhere between rocker and traditional sits the Early Rise. This helps the tip of the ski get up in softer snow, and still maintains good edge grip and firm snow performance.

Tip and Tail Protectors: Plastic protectors on the tip and tail increase the durability of the gear tenfold, and when someone says its dorky, just tell them that they are for nose and tail grabs, sort of like those old school skateboards.

Skier Ability: Lower Intermediate to Upper Intermediate: Skiing all sorts of blue runs, starting to get off trail and into advanced (black diamond) territory, but at controlled speeds.

Waveflex Technology: Elan's Waveflex is literally waves bored out of the core of the ski, you can see and feel the topsheet has a wave-like texture. The purpose of these waves is to provide a harmonious flex pattern throughout the ski, and lightens up the overall weight of the ski without giving up torsional rigidity.

  • Boots:
  • 102mm last: Slightly wider than average to give a great fit for most skiers. This last was designed to fit pretty much everyone, but really wide feet, or the opposite, should look for different lasts more appropriate for their foot types.

75 Flex Index: This boot has a flex index of 75, which is best for beginner to intermediate skiers. A boot of this flex will be more comfortable and generally lighterweight than a stiffer boot, but will be less responsive while skiing at high speeds.

30mm Power Strap: A velcro strap, 30mm in height, acts as an extra buckle to keep the top of the boot together. The 30mm straps are good for recreational skiers or junior racers.

Primaloft: A soft insulating fabric that is water repellent. Unlike down, Primaloft keeps your hands warm even when it's wet!

Tongue Pull: A loop of fabric at the top of the tongue helps in putting on and removing the boots. Pull it forward and to the side and your foot should slide right in.

Micro-adjustable alloy buckles: These alloy buckles can be moved to adjust for size, so if the default position of the buckle and the teeth is too wide or too narrow, you can move it until it fits.

Macro adjust ladder: The tooth plate opposite the top buckles can be moved in or out for a huge range of adjustment, and to fit narrow to wide lower legs.

Adjustable Cuff Profile: New Adjustable Cuff Profile Mechanism (ACP) allows with only one movement a neutral standing position for every leg size, making skiing all day easier and more comfortable no matter what the width of a skier’s leg. Improves width respeted previous mechanism.

Double Canting: Two adjustment bolts, one each side of the ankle, allow for maximum adjustment for leg/knee alignment problems. The canting helps the skis stay flat on the ground while you are still bow-legged or knock-kneed.
