The Head Challenger 120 is equal parts comfort and performance with a ski/walk switch thrown in there for good measure. This boot features Head's Adaptive Fit Technology where the Last can adjust between 99-101mm simply by turning a screw on the boot sole. Adaptive Fit ensures a comfortable fit that usually can't be attained in most high performance boots like this one. The Challenger has a stiff 120 flex which is intended for aggressive skiers, but there is a Ski/Walk Mode that unlocks the the upper cuff for easier walking around the lodge. The Challenger 120 is an optimal choice for advanced or expert skiers who ski all terrain but maybe want to dip their toes into the backcountry.

This chart provides a safe comfortable size that most all skiers will be able to use. If you are looking for a true skier's performance fit you may want to size down one half to one full size smaller. For most ski boots, the full (.0) size uses the same shell and liner as the half (.5) size (like, 25.0 and 25.5) and will have almost an identical fit.

Flip Ski Walk: A flip lever at the back spine of the boot has a toggle to switch from Ski or Walk mode. Try to keep it in ski mode while skiing, or it might feel a little funny skiing in the back-seat like its nobody's business! This does make walking around the resort looking for the bar or the kids a little more comfortable.

Tongue Pull: A loop of fabric at the top of the tongue helps in putting on and removing the boots. Pull it forward and to the side and your foot should slide right in.

Replaceable Toe and Heel Pads: This is a must-have for skiers that don't live in ski in/ski out condos. When your ski tech tells you that you have to buy new boots because the soles are worn down too much, just laugh at him and tell him to order you a new set of sole plates.

40mm strap: Super wide strap found on high performance boots. The extra width spreads out the force while skiing and reduces the pressure point on the upper shin.

Adaptive Fit Last 99-101mm: Head's newest boot technology is called Adaptive Fit. The Adaptive Fit boots essentially have two lasts, one at 99mm and one at 101mm, and all it requires is the turn of a screw.

120 Flex Rating: This boot is too stiff for beginners and even most intermediates. At this flex, the skier should be advanced to expert level, comfortable skiing at high speeds anywhere on the mountain.

Soft Walk Heel: A rubber insert in the heel cushions while walking to get better grip and a more comfortable stride.

Macro adjust ladder: The tooth plate opposite the top buckles can be moved in or out for a huge range of adjustment, and to fit narrow to wide lower legs.

Spine-Tech Buckles: The Spine-Tech buckle features a closure point that stays in place (it looks like a spinal cord). It increases overlap in the shell flaps which brings the boot closer to your leg and reduces pressure points that are usually caused with traditional buckles.

SoftWalk heel: The heel lug of this boot has a strategic injection of rubber that makes walking around more natural and less like Dr. Frankenstein's monster, while not affecting the boots performance on the slopes.

Double Canting: Two adjustment bolts, one each side of the ankle, allow for maximum adjustment for leg/knee alignment problems. The canting helps the skis stay flat on the ground while you are still bow-legged or knock-kneed.

Perfect Fit Liner: Perfect Fit is the revolutionary customization system that provides the best level of precision, comfort and durability. The Perfect Fit material allows the liner to adapt to your feet, ensuring maximum power transmission. 5 Minutes of heating is all that's required, or you can simply ski in the boot and it will mold over time.

Does this boot have to be molded, or is it good to go out of the box

Have not tried them onReview by Green Machine
L9 is good of course. They had the better price and the boot size that Amazon did not have. I like that all they do is skis.
I have been so busy this summer, I need to try them on still. hahah. . I like that the boot can be used for back country skiing. I need to buy those skis next, but need to try the boot on first. I like that they emailed me a primer on how to first try them on. Great advise. All the best. (Posted on 7/27/2017)
Alright but not for meReview by CB
Firstly, I must say this was my first interaction with L9Sports. They were excellent! Answered questions in a timely fashion, shipped immediately & had good follow up. They get top marks.
Now for the boot itself. I did take a chance with buying a boot online. I am probably a little to specialized for this. Thus, that is on me. The price was to good not to give it a shot.
Specs, I find the boot quite heavy which was a surprise given it is designed as a slack country. I also find it quite soft which I guess shouldn't be a surprise but I'd equate this boot more towards a 90 flex and no where near a 120. FYI I'm a heavy guy 230lbs.
In closing, I will not likely use this boot but the quality, sizablity, look & funtionality of this boot is great. Just not for me. (Posted on 12/24/2016)
Firm, preciseReview by kevolbud
These boots are great if you have good skills and are looking for good response from your boot, If I had these when I was younger maybe I would have taken skiing to a whole different level. These boots are especially good if you have a wide foot. I had these fitted by an expert at Snowbird who stretched out the inside of the boot to fit my left ankle bunion and they are truly the only boots I have ever been comfortable in. They have a walk mode, but be sure not to forget to put them back in ski mode prior to skiing. If you expect really good response from your boot at a really good price get them . They also look really cool. (Posted on 4/29/2016)

I've been always fully satisfied with shopping at Level9. Staffs are so friendly and professional. I've got always proper and prompt advice. I thought I could buy ski gears like boots only in the sports shop after putting on and having proper test, but from Leven9 I got best price and services.I ordered 2 different sizes and tried them out, chose one, but later I was advised to have better half size smaller, that I have to replace on more time. All these procedure, no problem. Delivery on time, refund ease, that I could enjoy my new gear on time for the upcoming spring break at Brian Head. These guys are the best and keeping me with absolute no further wishes. (Posted on 3/19/2016)
