Salomon Rocker 2 122 Skis

SKU: 36764
The Salomon Rocker2 122 (actually Rocker^2 to the mathematically inclined) feature Salomon's TWIN Rocker profile, which is extreme rocker in both the tip and tail, meaning these skis are surfy and buttery, and really nimble in powdery snow. The tips and tails have also been lightened up in two specific ways: Salomon used honeycomb construction in the tip and tail, which is lighter and softer than the dense wood core, additionally the metal edges of the ski end about 8 inches before the ski ends--so there is literally NO metal in the tips and tails meaning they are really light and easy to keep afloat. These skis are very fun, very playful, and surprisingly easy to turn--provided you spend most of your time in soft snow.

Description

Details

Extra Wide Edges: This ski employs thicker-than-average edges to hold up to the beating that you'll put them through.

Tip Rocker: This refers to the early rising of the tip to get the ski on top of the soft snow, rather than pushing through it. When the skis are held with the bases together, it will look like the tips are bent, and spread away from eachother. Tip rocker also helps skiers pivot the skis, making tight trees remarkably easy, and gives the ski a surf-like feel.

Wood Core: The standard core which has throughout time provided the best performance and durability. Each model may have it's own density level to help define flex and maximum speed but every wood core ski will be solid.

Edge Free Extremities: The tips and tails of ski were made without metal edges to lighten them up and provide more float, as well as giving them a more fluid ('surfy' would be the industry buzzword here) feel on turn initiation. This is a powder-specific technology.

Cap Construction: The topsheet of this ski drapes over the edge to form a clean and rounded finish to the side of the ski. This style of construction adds some torsional rigidity, and helps reduce topsheet chipping when the skis hit each other.

Ideal Target Skier: Powder Hound: If you use your sick days only when it snows 12'' or more overnight and not when you're actually sick, this ski is probably for you. Powder Hounds are on the search for deep and untouched powder, and fat skis to ski it with.

3 Choice Mount Position : The three choices are as follows. Park Mount is where the bindings are closer to dead center on the ski and is best for freeride skiers who want to ski switch a lot of the time. Manufacturer's mount is where the makers of the ski recommend you mount the bindings (usually between park and powder mount). Finally Powder mount is the furthest back on the ski which allows for more tip length and float in powder. If you wish to get more technical on where we mount your skis, please contact customer service.

We Have Recommended Some Bindings For You: You will notice there is a dropdown menu that says "Ski Bindings" above. These are simply a list of curated bindings we recommend will work best for this particular ski but other bindings will work as well. There are a few factors i.e. brake width, DIN range, ability level that determine an appropriate binding choice, so let us know if you need assistance.

Salomon's TWIN Rocker: Of all of Salomon's rocker profiles, this one is the most rockered. Bent in both the tips and the tails, these skis provide maximum flotation in powder situations. On groomers, these will be surprisingly easy to manage, but at high speeds on hardpack, they will be squirrely. But people don't buy these to ski on hardpack so....

Kinetic Core: Vertically laminated wood core with honeycomb inserts in the tip and tail to reduce swingweight and overall weight of the skis.

Honey Comb Tip and Tail: More Float, Less Flop. This ski has a super light honeycomb/Koroyd insert, reinforced with ABS. Less weight at the extremities with increased dampening from Koroyd material which dramatically increases maneuverability and ease of steering on rockered skis.

Skier Ability: Advanced to Expert: Skipping the blue runs to get to the black runs, but sometimes a little cautious when it gets very steep, or some hesitation when your buddy says, ''You just have to clear those rocks or else you're toast.''

Salomon Pulse Pad: A layer of rubber along the edges and in certain zones of the ski for a smoother ride and improved snow contact.

Tail Rocker: Just like Tip rocker, but in the tail, this feature allows the tails of the skis to release easier from the turn to give the skier the ability to turn the skis quicker in tight spots. It also allows skiers to dump speed by forcing the tails out and sliding sideways. The effective edge is reduced because of the tail rocker, so the skis will also be easier to control when forced to ski on the groomed slopes.
